An egalitarian halakha has to confront not only the question of conclusions but also one of methods. To what degree do we retain inherited legal categories and find ways to achieve incremental change within them? Alternatively, to what degree do we claim that old categories no longer map onto social realities in the ways they once did, demanding paradigmatic shifts in how we think about gender?
