After miraculously escaping slavery in Egypt, the Israelites reached the desert and complained that they had nothing to eat. The Almighty gave them the magical manna to sustain them, with a double portion on Friday. The Israelites are told to “see” what has been given to them (Exodus 16:29). The Maggid of Melbourne discusses this gift, and how it is revered in Jewish Law by Tosefet Shabbat--the practice of extending the holy day beyond its time boundaries.
