Description: Pursuit of peace, which can lead to the prevention of bloodshed and the saving of lives, is a central Jewish value. But so, too, is the vital bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel. Is it legitimate for a Jewish government to relinquish sovereignty over its territory to a foreign nation, even for the sake of peace? Is the land really ours to give? We will examine a wide range of rabbinic sources that address these questions and see how the answers to these questions have led to a growing divide within the religious population both in Israel and the Diaspora.
