What were the most pressing needs of the fledgling nation upon leaving Egypt, and how did Hashem respond to these? In this podcast, Neima Novetsky will explore the verses that describe the nation’s first stop after leaving Yam Suf, the episode of the sweetening of the waters of Marah. There, Hashem provides the nation both with potable water and with “chukim and mishpatim”, commonly translated as laws and ordinances. Why is this the nation’s first stop? What messages does Hashem mean to impart to the young nation through His actions?

She and her family made aliyah from New York where she founded and directed the Advanced Tanakh Beit Midrash Program at Lincoln Square Synagogue. She has taught at Midreshet Lindenbaum, Midreshet Moriah, the Ma'ayan Institute for Women, and the Princeton University Hillel and has lectured on Biblical topics in various synagogues in both Israel and the USA. She is also a co-founder of a new Tanakh and Parshanut website called 'Al Ha Torah.'
