Balak: Israel and Moab: Foes or Family?

Posted by Meir Schweiger on July 13, 2016
Topics: Pardes from Jerusalem

In this week’s parsha, Balak, the king of Moab, sees the people of Israel as a threat and hires Balaam to curse them. When that fails, he succeeds in undermining their relationship with G-d through prostitution and idolatry, resulting in the death of 24,000 men.

Through close textual study, Rabbi Schweiger examines how this adversarial relationship began with Lot and then takes a 180 degree turn with Ruth.
