5780 — Re’eh: Was there ever an Ir Nidahat or Subverted City?

Posted by Nechama Goldman Barash on August 10, 2020
Topics: Torah, Pardes from Jerusalem, Re'eh, Devarim (Deuteronomy)

In this podcast we will look at the moral complexity behind the command to utterly annihilate an Israelite city proven to be idolatrous. The debate around the practical application of this passage results in some interesting textual comparisons to other Biblical narratives and finally reflects a rabbinic ethos that seeks to redress some of the more complicated passages in Torah.
