Guest Lecture: When God’s World is Broken: Understanding Our Role in Partnering with the Divine

Class Title – Guest Lecture: When God’s World is Broken: Understanding Our Role in Partnering with the Divine

Class taught by Yaffa Epstein

Class description: These past two years have shown the world what true brokenness, division and despair look like. But, as we know, this is not a new story. The Jewish people have always had times of rupture, and we have used our Divinely given gift to repair, rebuild, and reconstruct our communities, our religious lives, and our worlds. This session will explore several stories from the third chapter of Tractate Ta’anit – that outline what the human response can and should be when we are facing tragedy. As we learn these stories, we’ll ask ourselves how we can help to better the world around us, in the wake of the challenges and opportunities we face in 5781.
