In this podcast, Leah Rosenthal explores the Talmudic story (from Moed Qatan 16b) of Rabbi Hiyya who defies his teacher Rabbi Yehuda HaNassi, when he teaches Torah in the open marketplace – rather than in the sacred beit midrash as R’Yehuda HaNassi decreed. As the story unfolds, tensions and undercurrents flow between the central personalities and their ideologies. Through the discussion of ancient Talmudic politics and conflicts we discover some striking similarities to some of our own current issues and debates.
