Rav Saadia is one of the great figures of Jewish history. He changed the geonic literary culture through the introduction of poetry and exegesis. He translated the Bible into Arabic and fought a battle to elevate the status of the Hebrew language. And he gave the first attempt at a coherent Jewish theology. Taken all together, Rav Saadia laid the groundwork for the Middle Ages.
