Class Title – The Resilience of Job

Class description: The book of Job opens with a narrative in which the Divine, with the assistance of Satan, afflicts the pious Job over and over in order to see if he will maintain his piety or abandon it and “bless” (a euphemism for “curse”) God. In this session addressing Courage and Resilience in stories of the Hebrew Bible, we will explore the devastation that visited Job and discuss how this man handled the tragedy that he had to endure.
