Tired of arguing about Israel issues? Or are you avoiding talking about Israel completely? There is a better way!
Tune in as Rabbi Zvi Hirschfield and Rabba Shani Gross model Mahloket Le-shem Shamayim (constructive disagreement) about timely and challenging Israel issues.
PART 1: The Role of Land in Jewish Identity
To what degree does the Land of Israel factor into Jewish identity and contribute to Jewish meaning for Jews across the globe? We will explore and wrestle with the question of whether the Land of Israel is a central element of Jewish practice and identity. We will also contemplate how Jews who feel differently about this issue build relationships with one another.
In the 19th-20th centuries, different Jewish thinkers presented competing visions and concerns about Zionism. How do I relate to those positions? We will explore those competing ideas and consider which aspects of those visions and concerns have or have not been realized since the creation of the state in 1948.
PART 3: Can Zionists and anti-Zionists Share the Same Tent? Should they?
We will explore different perspectives about what connects us as a people and discuss variables that might cause different ideological groups to conclude that they either want to be in connection with each other or that they want to cut ties. What factors might be considered when making that decision? What is at stake?
