The Sages teach that the prophet Samuel wrote his book, the book of Judges and the book of Ruth. Judges begins with order and ends in anarchy, while Ruth begins with breakdown and ends in order. What can these two texts teach us about the prophet’s leadership and the vision of kingship which he fostered?
